Studying Computer Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology

Open

I am now a holder of a Bachelors of science in computer engineering. Despite only being four years, college was a very impactful part of my life. During my time in college I had many firsts. I moved from Vermont to live in the dorms in Boston. It was the first time I would be living on my own, and my first time living in Boston. I had many difficult classes and I spent my free time taking part in school clubs and hanging out with friends. Overall my time in college was very memorable and a pivital time in my life.

Moving to the city

I studied at Wentworth Institute of Technology. This college is located in Boston with easy access to the green and orange lines. Before I studied at Boston I grew up in Vermont in a small town with cattle farms and corn fienlds arround every corner. When I arrived in Boston the first thing I noticed is the noice of the city. There is a constant hum of vecicles and sirens at all times of the day. I was very excited to live in Boston as the city would have so much for me to do. The first time I went to target I as suprised that the store had two stories. This may not seem remarkable to many poeople, but all the shops I had seen before were only one story. Now that I was living in the city I had access to the subway as well. I was ablel to take this anywhere I wanted. I would travel with friends and see many cool things and try new restaurants. My friend introducted my to bubble tea freshmen year of college and ever since then I have loved bubble tea and all its flavors.

Living on own

College was the first time I lived on my own. It was up to me now to take care of all my needs and keep my space clean. The first shopping trip I did in Boston was buying daily essentials such as cleaning and hygene things. At my college freshmen dorms don't have kitchens so I had most my meals at the shool cafeteria, or I made meals in the microwave. I was far enough away from college that I would not be ablel to visit home on every weekend, but when I had a three day break I would take a trip home by bus. I made sure to call home often to update my family on how I was doing. Of corse I had to do my own laundry, but luckliy for my the dorm I lived in had laundry units that I could pay for with my student ID. This was mostly good, but the machines would break down occasionally and sometimes people would leave their cloths in the machines for a long time. Living on my own was a fun expreince and I am glad I got to experience it in colelge.

Difficult classes

In college I studied computer engineering. I took many difficult classes including calculus, physics, programming, and engineering theory. There were many times that I had difficuly in the classes and I had to spend extra time studying and going to group study sessions to fill in the blanks in my understanding. I did spend lots of time doing practice problems so that I would be ready for tests, and I have spent many hours trying to figure out homework problems that seemed impossible. Overall the classes I took were very difficult, but I now know many new study methods and ways to gain more knowledge so that I can find the solution to the problem. Collge was difficult, but I perserviered and made it through to the other end.

Study Abroad

During my time in college I got the opportunity to study abroad in Melbourne at RMIT. During on of my semsesters I was able to travel to Australia and study at RMIT. It was a very fun experience and I got to do meet many people and try new things. I tried suring for the first time and it was amazing, and I was able to stand up a little while surfing. I participated in the borad game club and had many fun games.

Coop Semester

Coop semster was a dedicated semester to finding an internship and gaining experience in the field of our choice. For my coop semsester I worked for EChO Erradicate Childhood Obesity Foundation. While there I develped AR applications that would teach users about hidden sugars in products to spread awareness of the dangers of consuming an unhealthy amount of sugar. It was a short, but fun experience. We used the Unity game engine and AR technolfy to make the game more fun and immersive. I leaned alout about app develpment while I worked there and I got the chance to show of my skills as a programmer and developer. While I was not taking classes, I still gained alot of knowledge and skills that I still use today.

Conclusion

Colege was a very pivital point in my life. Linving in Boston was very exciting and I was able to see and try many new things. Living on my own allowed me a greater level of autonomy and allowed me to be responsible for myself for the first time. I had many difficult classes, but I was not alone and with help from other students I was able to finish college with a grade point average of 3.4. I had a great time studying abroad and I will remember these times forever. My time in college was a pivital point in my life, and I hope that if you go to college you have a good expreince too.
